Hopefully, you do not believe the myth that "It’s natural to lose your teeth in the adult years". This is not true. Your teeth are meant to be kept for a lifetime! Yet many people will lose their teeth needlessly. Too often neglect or improper care of the mouth results in periodontal disease (pyorrhea or gum  disease). This disease affects the gums, bone and other supporting structures of the teeth. Even if your teeth have no cavities you can lose them to periodontal disease.

 

Unfortunately most people are unaware they have gum disease because it usually progresses slowly for many years with little or no pain. Early signs of the disease such a bleeding of the gums can be seen even in children, and left untreated, becomes the greatest cause of tooth loss in adults.

 

Periodontal disease is preventable! If you become aware of the cause of the disease and understand how your teeth are affected, you can begin the program necessary to correct the problems and prevent it from recurring
